The Climate

The Okanagan Valley is legendary for its “California-like” summers, with July reaching an average high of 28°C.  This predictable hot and dry weather helps create the perfect location for all types of summer recreation, and is one of the many reasons we love calling the Okanagan home. Not only are Kelowna’s summers hot, but they are also very long. The climate, in combination with the gracious Okanagan Lake and the beautiful rolling lengths of the valley, makes for gorgeous scenery for many months of the year.

Another attractive aspect to the Okanagan’s climate is the short dry winters we experience, with January reaching an average high temperature of 0ºC. Many people actually move to the Valley for the warm and relatively snow-free winters, as well as Kelowna’s central location to three major ski resorts – Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna, Silver Star Ski Resort in Vernon, and Apex Mountain Resort in Penticton.  Kelowna’s winter climate is dry, with only 300mm of precipitation a year.  As well, the spring and fall have pleasant temperatures that often feel “summer-like!”
